Mangaluru: Youth found dead in well at Kinya village

Mangaluru, Oct 10, 2025: The body of a young man was found in a well near his house at Paday in Kinya village under Ullal police station limits on Thursday morning. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Mithun Shetty (32), son of Vishwanath Shetty, a resident of Kinya. According to reports, Mithun had gone to bed on Wednesday night but was found missing the next morning. His family began searching for him and during the search noticed a pair of slippers near a well close to the Kinya Gram Panchayat building. Locals immediately informed the police, who began a search operation.

From morning until around 3 p.m., members of the Home Guards team — Prasad Suvarna — along with locals Hainar Kinya, Farooq Ullal, Razak Kinya, Ansar Kinya, Rauf, and Haidar Kinya, conducted an underwater search. The body was later recovered in the afternoon.

Mithun was employed at a bakery in Mangaluru. He is survived by his father, brother, and sister. Ullal police have registered a case.

Since the search took a long time, noted swimmer and social worker Ishwar Malpe from Udupi was also contacted for assistance. He set out to help, but by the time he arrived, locals had already recovered the body.
