Mangaluru University 44th convocation: Honorary doctorates conferred on Harekal Hajabba, Ravish Padumale

Mangaluru, Mar 28, 2026: The 44th annual convocation of Mangaluru University was held on Saturday at the Mangala Auditorium on the university campus.

Karnataka Governor and Chancellor Thawar Chand Gehlot, who presided over the ceremony, conferred honorary doctorates on “Akshara Santa” and Padma Shri awardee Harekal Hajabba and Daiva Nartaka Ravish Padumale. The honorary doctorate announced posthumously for veteran Thenkuthittu Yakshagana artist Surikumeru Govinda Bhat will be formally handed over to his family at their residence on April 13.

The Governor also conferred degrees on all graduating students. Member of Parliament Capt. Brijesh Chowta delivered the convocation address.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. P.L. Dharma, Registrar Prof. Devendrappa, (Examinations) Ganesh Sanjeev (in-charge), Finance Officer Dr. Y. Sangappa and others were present.
