Mangaluru: Taxi and Maxi Cab drivers stage protest at Kavoor Circle

Mangaluru, Aug 5, 2026: Members of the Dakshina Kannada Taxi Men’s and Maxi Cab Association staged a protest at the taxi stand near Kavoor Junction on Wednesday, alleging that certain government policies have adversely affected the livelihood of taxi and cab drivers.

The association claimed that the state government has imposed unscientific regulations that have made it increasingly difficult for taxi and cab operators to earn a dignified living. It also stated that despite submitting several representations to the authorities over the past 57 years, their long-pending demands have remained unaddressed.

Speaking during the protest, association leaders expressed concern over the alleged discriminatory treatment of tourist vehicles at Mangaluru International Airport. They said tourist vehicles are being subjected to excessive and unscientific parking charges, which have negatively impacted the earnings of drivers.

The protesters further alleged that while tourist vehicles, despite paying all government taxes, are facing unnecessary restrictions, private vehicles are being extended various concessions, reflecting a discriminatory approach.

The association clarified that the protest was not against the government, but was aimed at drawing the attention of the authorities to their genuine grievances and pressing for the fulfilment of their demands.
