Mangaluru, Mar 3, 2026: The Mangaluru Lokayukta police on Monday arrested SDA Sampath, who was working at the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer, Electrical Sub-Division, Public Works Department, on charges of demanding and accepting a commission.
The complainant, a state government-approved Class-I electrical contractor, had executed government works related to the extension of streetlights in gram panchayat areas of Udupi district during 2025. It is alleged that Sampath demanded 4 percent of the bill amount — ₹22,600 — as commission for clearing the payment.
Based on the complaint filed by the contractor, the Mangaluru Lokayukta police registered a case and conducted a raid on Monday. Sampath was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount at his office.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police B.P. Dinesh Kumar, led by Deputy Superintendent Suresh Kumar P., Dr. Gana P. Kumar and PI Bharathi G., with Inspector Chandrashekhar K.N. and staff members Rajappa, Mahesh, Adarsh, Ram Nayak, Ganganna, Mahadev, Pavithra, Lakshmi, Ravi Pawar and Naveen participating in the raid.
