Mangaluru: Private buses will soon accept UPI payments from passengers

Mangaluru,June 17, 2024: Private buses in Dakshina Kannada are undergoing a digital upgrade to accept UPI payments from passengers, announced the Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association.

In addition to equipping private buses with GPS systems, the association is introducing UPI payment options onboard, facilitating online ticket purchases during travel.

The initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing convenience for bus commuters in the region. Already embracing digitalization, private bus operators have launched the Chalo App, offering substantial discounts to commuters. Association president Azeez Parthipady highlighted the popularity of Chalo Cards, which provide a 60% fare discount to students and are available free of charge.

"We anticipate increased adoption of digital payments with the introduction of UPI transactions on buses," said Parthipady. Chalo Cards are accessible to students with proper identification from designated offices across Mangaluru.

Ensuring passenger safety remains paramount, especially during monsoon season, with drivers instructed to prioritize caution and minimize noise disturbance onboard. As part of ongoing improvements, all buses will soon be equipped with doors, contributing further to passenger safety.

The association reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the overall travel experience while prioritizing passenger safety across all operations.
