Mangaluru: Presence of mind saves life – Bus driver Shashidhar Rai Padumale felicitated

Mangaluru, Sep 1, 2025: An incident that occurred at Nanthoor on Saturday night has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention. In a bid to overtake, a scooter rider hit a large pothole in the middle of the road, lost control, and fell directly in front of a moving bus, creating a near-tragic situation.

At that critical moment, bus driver Shashidhar Rai Padumale reacted with presence of mind and applied the brakes instantly, saving the rider from certain death. The dramatic sequence was captured on the bus’s dash camera and has since been widely circulated online.

 

 

 

Recognising his timely response, the youth group SHARVA from Bolara, Mangaluru, organised a felicitation ceremony at the Mangaladevi bus stand. Rai was honoured with a shawl and a bouquet for his quick thinking and alertness.

Speaking on the occasion, SHARVA leader Arjun Bolara said: “In unpredictable situations, a split-second decision can save lives. The presence of mind shown by Shashidhar Rai is exemplary. Smart drivers like him are truly a pride to society.”
