Mangaluru: Moving car crushed by falling tree near Bavutagudda; driver escapes unhurt

Mangaluru, Jul 20, 2026: A car driver had a narrow escape after a huge tree was uprooted by heavy rain and fell onto his moving vehicle on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred on an internal road near St Aloysius College at Bavutagudda.

The impact was so strong that branches of the fallen tree also crashed onto a nearby canteen, causing significant damage to both the building and the car. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, escaped without injuries as the tree fell mainly on the rear portion of the car.

Tree fall

On receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Pandeshwar Fire and Emergency Services and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the spot and cleared the fallen tree and debris. Officials from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and MESCOM also visited the site to assess the damage and take steps to restore normalcy.
