Mangalore : Variety of programmes mark Konkani Sanskritika Sangh convention

Mangalore, May 27, 2013 : A Konkani convention organised by the Konkani Sanskritika Sangha at the TV Raman Pai Hall, Mangalore on May 26, Sunday was inaugurated by Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of the World Konkani Centre.

The GSB Mahila Vrinda, Mangalore, Daivajna Brahmana Samaj, Young Chitrapur Saraswath, Vyshyavani Samaj and Chaptekar Saraswath Samaj had also joined in organizing the convention.

 

In his address, he said a language can progress only when people of the community develop a love towards the language.

Venkatesh Baliga, President of Konkani Sanskritika Sangha, presided over the function.Rajendra Kumar Shet,President Daivajna Brahmana Samaj, Meenakshi Pai of GSB Mahila Vrinda, Manoj S Nayak of Vyshyavani Samaj, Brahmanand Kandlur of Young Chitrapur Saraswath and S Srinivasa Nayak of Chaptekar Saraswath Samaj were the chief guests.

The morning session was presided over by Dr B Devadas Pai, Registrar of the Konkani Sahitya Academy, while Kochi Ananth Bhat, well-known poet, presided over the noon session. Several scholars including Dr K Mohan Pai, Dr Jayavanth Nayak, Aruna Nagaraj, Geeta C Kini, Mangalpady Namadev Shenoy, Prashanth Shet, and Koni Sheshagiri Nayak, participated in the sessions.

A variety of cultural programmes and Konkani light music programmes were arranged as part of the convention.

Kasargod Chinna, President, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy was the chief guest at the valedictory function. Mahesh Bondal, Secretary, Sarswat Education Society and Annappa Pai, Vice President, Canara High School Association were the chief guests.

Malayalam actor Samskruthy Shenoy was honoured with ‘Konkani Samskruthika Rayabhari’ Award. M Madhav Pai (Konkani Bhasha Sampanna Puraskar), Vasanthi R Nayak (Konkani Sangeeta Sampanna Puraskar) Pangal Vilas Nayak (Konkani Samaj Udyama Sampanna Puraskar), V Krishnamurthy, weightlifter (Konkany Samaj Kreeda Sampanna Puraskar), and Vishwa Konkani Students Scholarship Fund (Konkani Samaj Shikshana Seva Puraskar) were also presented on the occasion.

M Ramesh Krishna Shet, Silver jubilee Committee President of Konkani Samskruthika Sangha was conferred ‘Konkani Samaj Seva Ratna Puraskar’  on the occasion.
