New Delhi, Oct 9, 2026: Leaders of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc will meet President Droupadi Murmu at 8 pm on Friday to press for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to sources, the President’s office confirmed the appointment on Friday morning.
A 10-member delegation, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee, is expected to meet the President.
Opposition MPs have been staging protests in the national capital for the past three days, demanding Kumar’s resignation.
