Mangalore, Jan 18, 2013: District in Charge minister C T Ravi inaugurated the infrastructural work of the proposed Ropeway Bridge connecting Sultan Battery and Tannirbavi, on Jan 18, Friday.
Presiding over the event, Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat said that the project works have been assigned to a Mangalore based company named Yojaka India Ltd.He said that the company will complete the project at a cost of Rs 12 crore in one and half years. The 410 meter long bridge will be constructed at a height of 25 meters and will have three meters width.
The two-way bridge considered the largest bridge in India lengthwise, will have one and a half meter width on each side. The pillars of the bridge will be resistant to Tsunami and earthquake, Bhat informed.
Revealing technical details, Yogish Bhat said that the renowned Bridge Man Girish Bharadhwaj was the technical advisor of the project. He said 55 mm rope will be used for the bridge construction, while metal girder will be used for the base. The bridge will have two pillars with eight rock bottom piles, making it the strongest bridge.
On the other state government sponsored tourism projects, Bhat said that the government will construct a 3D planetarium and will name it after Swami Vivekananda. A golf course will also be set at Tannirbavi, he said and added a Marine Aquarium worth Rs 250 crores was also in the pipeline. The tender bidding process is in progress, Bhat informed.
This is said to be the third function organised with regard to the initiation of this project and works have already begun.
