Mangalore, October 5: : The memorial constructed in honor of the victims of the Mangalore plane crash of May 22 has been demolished by unknown miscreants, who had hurled huge boulders at the memorial. Neither the identity of the people involved in this criminal activity nor their motive has been understood so far.

The granite sheets on which the names of the deceased were inscribed has been broken by miscreants, they said.


The Air India had installed six slabs of black granite on an elevated structure bearing the names of all the air crash victims. The names of the cabin crew and the passengers had been inscribed separately on the slabs.


The memorial was unveiled by M. M. Nambiar, the civil aviation secretary on July 27.


A case has been registered in Bajpe police station. Investigations are on under the leadership of Valantine D’Souza, Circle Inspector of Police, Bajpe.
