Mangaluru, March 29, 2026: The Kankanady Town Police have arrested a 41-year-old man from Manjeshwar in neighbouring Kasaragod district for allegedly posting a provocative and communally sensitive comment on social media.
The accused, identified as Ganesh Prasad, was arrested on March 27 and remanded to 15 days of judicial custody by a jurisdictional court on Saturday.

According to police, the case relates to a January 2026 incident, when a video of a Qirat (Quran recitation) competition held at a convention centre in Mangaluru was shared on a newspaper’s Facebook page. The accused allegedly posted a comment claiming that children were being “brainwashed” and sent in the future to carry out bomb attacks, thereby promoting religious enmity.
Based on a complaint, Kankanady Town Police registered a case (Crime No. 15/2026) under Section 196 of the BNS and Section 66 of the IT Act. তদন্ত during the probe confirmed the identity of the accused, following which he was taken into custody.
Police said further investigation is underway.
