Mahamasthakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali in Venoor begins

Belthangady, Jan 29, 2012: The Mahamasthakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali (also known as Gomateshwara), which is a 9-day event, commenced at Venoor on Jan 28 Saturday. CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the event at the foot of the statue of Lord Bahubali. 

Acharya Shri Gunadhar Nandi Maharaj said that media is circulating false rumors that a CM who participates in the Mahamasthakabhisheka will not last long as the CM, but Sharad Pawar proved it wrong by continuing to be in office for nearly 15 years in spite of participating in this festival. 

Responding to this statement, the CM said that power if temporary and only an individual’s deeds while in power remain permanent.

The CM also promised that an exclusive Jain study centre will be set up at Mangalore University and he will earmark funds for the same in the upcoming budget session. 

In his address, Swastishri Charukirthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Shravanabelagola Mutt spoke of peace and said that the teachings and ideals of Lord Bahubali are a beacon of light for modern society. 

Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, the dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Kshethra, said that one needs to stay away from temptations in order to become a good human being. 

The statue of Lord Bahubali was then anointed with sandalwood mixture, milk, and other ingredients. A number of Jain saadhus, devotees, and swamijis were present on the occasion. 

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Shri Digambar Nandi Swamiji, MLC Ganesh Karnik, and Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya were also present.
