MCC to work for clean city and take action against violators: MCC Commissioner

Mangalore, Dec 10, 2013: Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Shanady Ajith Hegde said that MCC is making an effort to make the city clean and hygiene and stringent action will be taken against those who fail to follow the rules.


Speaking at the press meet held at his office on Dec 10, Tuesday, he said that further MCC will follow the guidelines of Karnataka Muncipal Corporations Act (Amendment) Act, 2013 to maintain cleanliness in city and one who fails to follow will have to face penalties or even imprisonment.

Briefing on the Karnataka Muncipal Corporations Act (Amendment) Act, 2013, commissioner said that as per schedule XIII, if a found urinating, littering or committing other acts of nuisance on road, bus stand, railway stations or in public places coming under the limits of MCC will be imposed fine of Rs 100 for th first time and Rs 200 each time the mistake is repeated.


As per section 262 of Act, the person who fails to maintain proper solid waste management will also be as per section 262 as the offence is repeated. If the person commits offence for fifth time, he/ she will be imprisoned for a term and may extend to three months or pay the fine of Rs 1,000.


According to 423 of Act also emphasizes the regulation on laying any cable including optical fiber cables and failing to stick to conditions will have to pay the penalty. 


Recently fines were imposed on Mangala Nursing Home, Mangala Kidney Foundation, Santhathi Clinic, Yenepoya hospital and Arvind Motors for improper solid waste management, among which, Arvind Motors and Mangala Kidney Foundation have paid the fines.


These regulations will function from tomorrow and the three B group officers will work to uphold the amended laws.


MCC has established Vehicle Tracking System through GPS, M Governance and SMS-based public grievance re-addrassal system to maintain transparency in solid waste management.


MCC assistant commissioner Prameela, health inspector Manjayya Shetty, and environment engineer Madhu Manohar were present.
