MCC convenes meeting to discuss tackling monsoon-related calamities

Mangalore June 15: Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash said that various departments such as traffic, Mescom, Home Guards, police, health, fisheries, fires, and others will put in collaborative efforts to protect life and property during the monsoons during a meeting convened in the Mayor’s chamber, MCC on June 15, Tuesday. He said that various departments are ready to handle emergencies during the monsoons.

An MCC official said that a team of 75 swimmers and divers along with boats has been arranged for rescue operations in case of emergencies. Primary health centres have been notified to be ready for emergencies. Four additional boats have been arranged to tackle emergencies in places such as Bengre. 

In case of flooding inside the house, people are required to call the fire service, which will drain water even from inaccessible areas with the help of portable pumps, informed MCC officials.

Professional swimmers and lifeguards have been deputed at places such as Panambur, Ullal, and Sasihithlu. The matter of removing power in case of emergencies especially in case of live wires was also discussed at the meeting. 

The public can just call the task force in case of emergencies. The assistant engineer with special gang and emergency vehicles will be ready to rush to the rescue. 

Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Commissioner of MCC Dr. Vijayaprakash, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Ranganath Kini, Manjunath Shetty, representatives of the traffic police, district health officer, port officer, and RTO officials were present at the meeting.
