Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 11, 2011: The total lunar eclipse on Saturday night is this year’s second and last event of its kind. It commenced at 6:15 p.m. and ended at 9:50 p.m., and for a total of 51 minutes from IST 7:36 p.m. to 8:27 p.m., the shadow of the Earth blocked the moon from view. The sight of the moon turning copper-orange was quite spectacular.

An eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind the earth and blocks the rays of the sun from reaching it. Fortunately, the clear skies and the great weather enabled people to watch the eclipse with ease. When a similar eclipse occurred in June, people were unable to watch it because of the monsoons.

A large number of enthusiastic people visited St. Agnes College and Poornaprajna College to view the phenomenon.
