Puttur Chalo agitation on August 31 over recent incident: VHP, Bajrang Dal and HJV

Mangaluru, Aug 28, 2026: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV), Dakshina Kannada, will organise a “Puttur Chalo” public awareness agitation on August 31 in Puttur, VHP state publicity and media co-chief Pradeep Saripalla said.

Speaking at a press conference at the VHP office in Mangaluru on Friday, Saripalla said the police had registered attempt-to-murder cases against xerox shop owners Sadashiva Pai, Anjana Pai and Sudarshan Pai in connection with the recent incident in Puttur, calling the action “malicious”. He demanded that the cases be withdrawn immediately.

He also demanded that Niyaz and Naushad, who are alleged to be former activists of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and were accused of causing unrest, be arrested under the Goonda Act and legal action be taken against them. He further sought registration of cases under laws dealing with organised crime and a detailed investigation.

Saripalla urged the police department to conduct an impartial investigation without yielding to any political pressure.

Bajrang Dal divisional coordinator Puneeth Attavar said the agitation would begin with a protest march from Darbe Circle in Puttur at 10 am on August 31. A large public gathering will be held at the grounds of Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple.

He said state-level leaders of the VHP, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike would participate in the programme, while activists from various parts of Dakshina Kannada district are expected to join voluntarily.

HJV state executive committee members Kiran Murje and Amit Gundalike were present at the press conference.
