Mangalore, Jan 29, 2012: NITTE Celebration Mangalore Half Marathon & 10 K, a running event from Celebration Run Series was held on January 29 Sunday on Panambur Beach, the first organized run with global standards in Mangalore. 


The event is organized by Life is Calling Sports. Nitte University, one of the pioneering educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada, is the sponsor of the event.  The Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project supports the event. Noted cine actor Likith Shetty was present.

Runners came from various parts of India as well as international runners from Kenya and Ethiopia participated. The running event also featured live music bands and folk dance groups stationed along the running route to add to the fun and ambience.


NITTE Celebration Mangalore Half Marathon & 10 K had 21km Half Marathon, 10km, and 5km running categories. The 21km and 10km were in the competitive category whereas the 5km was in the non-competitive category.


The top three winners of the 21km running open category are:


Men’s Category
First Position: Yared Admasu Miratu (24) of Ethiopia won a cash amount of Rs 30,000. He completed the run in 01:05:39
Second Position: Abebe Sitine (21) of Ethiopia won a cash amount of Rs. 20,000. He completed the run in 01:05:54
Third Position: Soji Mathew (30) of Kerala won a cash amount of Rs.15,000 . He completed the run in 01:06:53


Women’s Category
First Position: Juma Khatum (23) of Bangalore won a cash amount of Rs 30,000. She completed the run in 01:27:03
Second Position: Chaitra (20) of Alvas won a cash amount of Rs. 20,000. She completed the run in 01:37:31
Third Position: Deepika A. (20) of Alvas won a cash amount of Rs.15, 000. She completed the run in 01:38:16


First prize winners in the 21km senior category
Men’s Category
Jean-Bennoit (54) of France won Rs. 10,000. He completed the run in 01:30:32


Women’s Category
Seema Pardeshi (52) Pune won Rs.10,000. He completed the run in 03:18:40


The top three winners in the 10km running open category are
Men’s Category

First Position: Pritam K Bind (27) of Bangalore won Rs.15,000.
Second Position: Krishanapa (20) of Alvas won Rs. 10,000.
Third Position: Basavaraj MT (21) of Alvas won Rs. 5,000.


Women’s Category
First Position:  Priyanka Singh Patel (24) of Varanasi, UP won Rs 15,000.
Second Position: Smitha C (22) of Alvas won Rs. 10,000.
Third Position: Sujatha A. S. of Alvas won Rs. 5, 000.


First prize winners in the 10km senior category
Men’s Category

Ramaya M. M. (55) of Mangalore won Rs. 7,500. He completed the run in 00:31:36


Women’s Category
Prema Winston of Dakshina Kannada district won Rs. 7,500. She completed the run in 01:13:08


A special prize was also awarded to runners of Dakshina Kannada participating in the 21kms Half Marathon and 10kms.

Third Position: Chetan K. A. (19) won a cash amount of Rs.5,000. He completed the run in 01:25:33


Women’s Category
First Position: Chaitra (20) won a cash amount of Rs 10,000. She completed the run in 01:37:31
Second Position: Deepika A (20) won Rs. 7,500. She completed the run in 01:38:16
Third Position: Kripa A. (21) won Rs.5, 000. 


Top three winners in the 10km open category from Dakshina Kannada
Men’s Category
First Position: Krishnappa (20) won Rs 7,500.
Second Position: Basavaraj M.T. won Rs. 5,000.
Third Position: Pradeep M. N. (23) won Rs. 2, 500.


Women’s Category
First Position: Smitha C. (22) won Rs 7,500.
Second Position: Kavitha P. (21) won a cash amount of Rs. 5,000.
Third Position: Aruna Kala won a cash amount of Rs. 2,500.
