Kundapur, Dec 10, 2013 :  Thieves have  made a vain attempt to break the ATM machine of the Corporation Bank  at Sastana Pandeshwar here on December 9, Monday night. The CC Camera at the ATM Kiosk has also been found damaged. Sources said no cash has been stolen.

The  burglary attempt came to light when a bank customer Arun Louis of Sastana arrived  at around 8 am on December 10, Tuesday to withdraw cash. He found the rolling shutter of the ATM Kiosk half open. When he enquired with a nearby shopkeeper, the latter said  that the machine might be out of order. Still, Louis decided to give a try and  opened the shutter.

To his shock  he found the ATM machine broken and the CC Camera on the floor. Even the tube light outside the centre was found broken. Louis immediately informed the locals who called the police.

A dog squad and finger print experts have been  pressed into service. A sniffer dog went  upto a vacant land behind a school nearby  and  detected an iron rod  which might have been possibly discarded by the thieves. The dog later moved ahead until the highway and returned.

The ATM  Kiosk was shifted to the Wren Complex at Sastana Pandeshwar just a few months ago and is just 20 meters away from the highway. However, the ATM Kisok had reportedly no security guard.

Sources said the  last transaction at the Kiosk was at 9.12 pm on Monday. The CC Camera was damaged at 2.02 am on Tuesday morning while the attempt to break open the ATM machine was done at 2.09 am, as per the records available.

Senior officials of the Bank too have arrived at the spot. CCTV footages are also being scrutinized.
