Karnataka is steeped in corruption – Veerappa Moily

Mangalore Today News Network

MoilyMangalore, Jan 6, 2012: Addressing reporters at a press meet held in Circuit House, Veerappa Moily, the union minister of corporate affairs, complained about the corruption in Karnataka.

Flaying the government for its delay in appointing the Lokayukta, Moily said that the state government has no “political will’ and that it would have appointed a Lokayukta long back if it wanted to. Pointing out that there are a number of efficient retired judges for this post, he urged the government to make a quick appointment to this post for the general welfare of the citizens.

Speaking of the Jan Lokpal Bill, he said that the UPA government is trying its best to create a strong Lokpal Bill and that 34 of the 43 proposals set forth by Team Anna have been accepted. The other six proposals will be thoroughly discussed as laws cannot be passed without discussing the various pros and cons, he added. Simultaneously, he also flayed Team Anna for attempting to blackmail the government, alleging that Team Anna is less interested in the law than in politicizing the entire issue.

Regarding the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, he said that the bill was pending with the standing committee.

He also announced that the centre has released Rs. 2 crore for the National Youth Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Mangalore.
