Bengaluru, Dec 14, 2025: The Karnataka government is moving to fast-track the growth of the state’s plastics sector by establishing dedicated plastic parks in Mangaluru and Vijayapura district, equipped with modern infrastructure for polymer and plastics enterprises, Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil said on Saturday.
Speaking at the launch of PLASTINDIA 2026 in Bengaluru, Patil said the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) will set up a new campus within the proposed Mangaluru Plastic Park. The facility will focus on skill development and research in polymer science to support industry requirements.

The event was organised ahead of the 12th International Plastics Exhibition and Conference, PLASTINDIA 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 5 to 10.
According to a statement issued by the minister’s office, India’s plastics industry has witnessed robust growth over the past decade, expanding from about USD 15 billion to USD 37 billion, and is projected to touch USD 50 billion by 2026. The sector currently employs around four million people and is expected to generate nearly 5.5 million jobs by 2026.
Patil noted that the plastics industry contributes around 1.5 per cent to India’s GDP at present and is poised to account for nearly 2 per cent by 2026, emerging as a key sunrise sector driving industrial growth.
Highlighting Karnataka’s infrastructure push, the minister said the state has more than 200 industrial areas spread across over 85,000 acres and is developing new investment zones to cater to future industrial demand.
Referring to the large volume of plastic waste generated in urban centres, Patil stressed that effective waste management is critical for environmental sustainability. He assured that the government would extend full support to entrepreneurs willing to take up ventures in plastic waste management and recycling.
