Jeppu Parish organizes fund raiser in honor of late Wilfy Rebimbus

Mangalore, Nov 28, 2011 : The parish of Jeppu organized a special event titled Ek Dees Wilfyab Songhim (A Day with Wilfy Rebimbus) on the grounds of Jeppu Church on Nov 27 Sunday.

The event commenced with a Holy Mass at 4:30 p.m. celebrated by Fr. Joseph Martis, rector of St. Joseph Seminary in honor of Wilfy Rebimbus. The event had drawn a crowd of more than 2000 people.

Speaking about Jeppu parish, Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, the parish priest, said that Jeppu parish, which comprises 315 families, is among the poorest in Mangalore Diocese, with several families struggling to make a living. In spite of this, Jeppu has produced some of the best talents in the diocese, he added. He also said that the purpose of this event is to raise funds for the needy in the parish.

The members of Wilfy Rebimbus’s group presented a musical concert as a loving tribute. A play based on a short story called Pinthra written by Wilfy Rebimbus and directed by John M. Permannur was staged. 
 
A stall displaying medals won by the late Wilfy Rebimbus and all his CDs formed the highlight of the event. A PowerPoint Presentation on the life of Wilfy Rebimbus was shown on the occasion. The sponsors of the day were then felicitated.

The parish also organized the Late Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial Inter Parish Wilfyab Songs Competition for different parishes. The prizes were distributed among the winners of the individual category of this competition. The overall trophy was bagged by Kulshekar Church.


The dignitaries on the dais were Fr. Joseph Martis, the rector of St. Joseph Seminary; Fr. Nelson D’Almeida, the parish priest of Jeppu; Meena Rebimbus; Louis and Flavy Fernandes of Valencia; Henry and Diana D’Souza of Angelore; Michael D’Souza of Dubai; Ashok and Sunitha Marina Tauro of Valencia; Hemacharya, the editor of Daijiworld weekly; and Pamla Santos, the vice president.
