Food Safety Officials Inspect McDonald’s Outlet in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug. 16, 2026: Food safety officials on Sunday inspected a McDonald’s outlet at a mall on K.S. Rao Road as part of an ongoing drive to check food quality and hygiene at eateries across the city.

The inspection followed a raid on a KFC outlet at the same mall on Saturday, during which officials reportedly found food safety and hygiene violations.

Officials from the district health and food safety departments inspected the McDonald’s kitchen and storage facilities. They checked cold storage and deep-freezing units, temperature levels and ingredients such as bread, buns, sauces and vegetables used in food preparation.

Samples of food items were collected and will be sent to a laboratory for quality testing.

Officials said no expired food items were found and the outlet was using equipment in accordance with prescribed norms. However, they noted that food items could deteriorate if they were not stored at the required temperature, even if they had not crossed their expiry dates.

The inspection also found meat and vegetarian food items being stored in the same freezer, officials said.

Food Safety Officer Dr. Praveen said inspections of hotels and restaurants were being conducted across the district under the direction of Health Minister U.T. Khader to ensure safe and quality food for the public.

The drive will continue in Mangaluru and other taluks in the coming days, he added.
