Mangaluru, Aug 16, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations have declared Monday, August 17, a public holiday on account of Nagara Panchami.
The holiday will apply to schools, colleges, other educational institutions and government offices across both districts, according to notifications issued by the respective Deputy Commissioners.

The decision follows the Karnataka government’s direction authorising the Deputy Commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi to declare a local holiday for Nagara Panchami based on local circumstances.
The government had considered a proposal from the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner seeking a holiday on August 17 and subsequently empowered the Deputy Commissioners of both districts to take a decision in accordance with the rules.
