Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug. 16, 2026: Health and food safety officials raided a KFC outlet at a mall on K.S. Rao Road here on Saturday following a complaint about suspected contaminated food.

District Health Officer Dr. H.R. Thimmaiah and District Food Safety Officer Praveen found unhygienic conditions, chicken stored in the outlet’s storage area and expired cooking oil. Three varieties of chicken and the oil were seized, and the outlet was sealed.

The raid followed a complaint from a customer who detected a foul smell from a chicken dish ordered from the outlet. The matter was brought to the attention of Dakshina Kannada District Minister in-charge U.T. Khader, following which the inspection was conducted.

Officials also reportedly found a foul smell in the storage room and said the staff failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the stored meat.

Samples have been sent to the Food Testing Laboratory in Mysuru for analysis. “Prima facie, we found unhygienic conditions, stale meat and expired oil,” Praveen said.

The outlet has been directed to remove all products and clean the premises. Further action will be taken based on the laboratory report.
