Bengaluru, Aug 18, 2026: Bengaluru police have detained a woman after her husband and four-year-old son were found dead at their home in Chikkabanavara on Monday.
The woman, Harini, alerted police around 7.30 am, claiming that her husband, Abhinandan, 33, and their son Yaduveer had become unresponsive. Police rushed to the house and found both of them dead.
Police suspected foul play after noticing injury marks on the bodies, including bleeding from the ears. During questioning, Harini was initially reluctant to respond but later allegedly confessed to smothering her husband and son following a family dispute, police said.
Investigators, however, suspect that she may have had assistance from others and are working to identify and trace them. Police are also examining call detail records as part of the investigation.
CCTV cameras installed at the house were found to be non-functional. Investigators are checking whether the cameras were deliberately switched off or whether the footage was deleted. They are also trying to determine who had access to the CCTV system and when it stopped functioning.
Police are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to establish the exact cause of death.
Based on a complaint filed by Abhinandan’s mother, Bhagyamma, Chikkabanavara police have registered a murder case.
Abhinandan, a native of Kunigal, had moved to Bengaluru and was living in KP Agrahara off Magadi Road before marriage. An engineering diploma holder, he worked for a private company. After their marriage, the couple moved into their own house in Gudde Basaveshwara Nagar, Chikkabanavara, around six years ago.
The family lived on the ground floor, while the first and second floors were rented out. Their son Yaduveer was a kindergarten student. Harini was a homemaker.
Tensions erupt between families
Tension prevailed at the house after Abhinandan’s relatives confronted Harini’s family members and held them responsible for the deaths. The situation nearly turned violent when some relatives allegedly attempted to assault Harini’s maternal uncle. Police intervened and brought the situation under control, a senior officer said.
Harini had gone missing in 2025
Harini had gone missing for a few days in January 2025, following which her family filed a missing-person complaint at Soladevanahalli police station. She later returned.
At the time, Abhinandan’s family suspected that she had eloped with another man. The two families subsequently held a reconciliation meeting, after which Harini agreed to continue living with Abhinandan.
However, police said the couple continued to have frequent arguments over what they described as "trivial issues."
