Mangalore, July 27:  Andria -3, an Iranian ship belonging to the Marcan Shipping Ltd., got into trouble just a few meters from the Mangalorean coast at Tannirbhavi on July 27, Tuesday. The ship had set sail from Iran to Jakartha.


Eight members of the crew including the captain of the ship were saved by the Coast Guard. Inspector of Coast Guards Mukund Nayak said that the vessel was seen sailing only with seven Indonesian workers and an Iranian captain. He also said that there was shortage of food on the ship and that the crew will be provided food items by the agents.

The captain said that the ship ran short of fuel and began sinking. The shortage of fuel accompanied by the stormy weather caused the ship to lose fuel.


DC V. Ponnuraj said that the crew had even anchored the ship at 10 nautical instead of the customary 5 nautical, which is unsafe. He said that the number of people on the ship is yet to be verified and that the task of verification has  been given to the Coast Guard.


Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh was also present.
