In swift operation, train thief arrested; valuables worth Rs 4.67 lakh seized

Udupi, Oct 07, 2023: Railway police in a swift operation have arrested a man of New Delhi origin on the charges of stealing a bag containing valuables belonging to a woman travelling in the Netravathi Express bound to Mumbai from Thrissur.

The arrested man is Sunny Malhotra (30). The bag containing valuables worth Rs 4.67 lakh was seized from him.

Train

The theft had occurred on the night of October 4 when Kalyani Balakrishnan was travelling in the train. When the train had slowed down near the Thokur Railway Station, someone had stolen her bag containing jewellery weighing 127 grams, mobile phone, Aadhaar, pan card etc. The value of the stolen valuables was Rs 6.7 lakhs. Immediately a complaint was lodged with the help of the TT. Srikanth who was on duty at the Udupi Railway Station was also informed. He noticed a man moving suspiciously in the platform at around 11.55 pm and latter was taken to the authorities who handed him over to the police when it came to light that he was the thief.
