High command to bring peace between Yeddy and Eshwarappa – DVS

Mangalore, Jan 4, 2011: D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister of Karnataka, arrived at Bajpe Airport at 8:15 a.m. today and informed reporters who were waiting for him there that the BJP high command will intervene in the recent quarrel between Eshwarappa, the state president of the BJP, and B. S. Yeddyurappa, the former chief minister.


 

The two BJP leaders have been quarrelling for the past few days, with Yeddyurappa accusing Eshwarappa of attempting to conspire to throw him out of the BJP. Recently, the CM and Eshwarappa had met several BJP leaders in New Delhi to discuss the issue. The CM told reporters in Mangalore that the high command has already taken the required steps to patch up things between the two leaders.

When questioned about Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje’s recent visit to New Delhi, the CM said that the BJP high command had summoned her. 


The CM also said that all developmental projects will be discussed at the assembly, which will commence on Jan 30 and will last for 10 days. The budget session will commence during the first week of March, he said. 


Speaking about the delay in road development, he said that the work cannot be taken up because of the rains, but will be completed within a fortnight. 


Regarding the incident in which certain Sangh Parivar members pelted stones on the Sullia Police Station, he said that the Shankar Bidari, the DGP-IG, and Bipin Gopalkrishna, the ADGP, will investigate the issue and take the required action without any government intervention. 


Interacting with the media before and after inspecting the preparations made for the National Youth Festival, which is scheduled to commence on Jan 12, the CM said that Mangalore is hosting this event for the first time, owing to which holiday will be declared for schools and colleges if required and transport facility will be made available to take students to the venue. 


Revealing further details about the festival, he said that the decision to have it in Mangalore was taken at a meeting held in New Delhi, in which Veerappa Moily was present. The central government has provided Rs. 2 crore in addition to the state government’s contribution of Rs. 10 crore, a total of Rs. 12 crore will be spent on the festival. He also said that the purpose of this youth festival is to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. 


Speaking on development issues, he urged the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to repair the city roads at the earliest. He informed reporters that the government has released Rs. 100 crore for development work in Mangalore, with Rs. 12 crore being released to construct a footbridge between Sulthan Battery and Tannirbhave and Rs. 22 crore released for the Malavoor drinking water project.


The CM has come to Mangalore to participate in the Coastal Development Summit, which is being held today.
