Government must refer Sowjanya case to CBI - SRS

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 21, 2012:  The Sri Rama Sena (SRS) has urged the state government to  hand over the Sowjanya rape and murder case to the CBI.

Speaking at a press meet held at Press Club on November 21, Wednesday,  Madhukar Mudrady said that there are several unsolved murder and missing person cases of girls in the district. Citing examples of the cases of Vamshi of Shirva, Soumya Bhat, and Akshatha of Puttur, he said that the culprits have not been found in these cases.

Although the police have arrested a mentally ill man called Santhosh Rao in connection with Sowya’s death, the local people and even Sowmya’s family members feel that he is not the real culprit, therefore the case must be handed over to the CBI, he said.

Although Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Kemaru Mutt had visited Sowmya’s house on Nov 5 to convince her parents to demand that the case must be handed over to the CBI, he said that Keshava Belalu, president of Dharmasthala GP, has publicly stated that the swamiji is doing this for political benefits. Calling this an attempt to shut the case, he said that Belalu’s statement clearly shows that he supports the murder and has secrets to hide.

Although the case has been referred to the CID at present, only the CBI can identify the real culprits, he added.

Regarding the Datta Peeta, he said that the SRS will organize the Datta Mala at Datta Peeta on Nov 25, Sunday. Although C. T. Ravi, district-in-charge minister of DK, who came to power in the name of the Datta Peeta, is not allowing any devotee to visit the Datta Peeta with SRS members, Sangh Parivar members are free to visit, he said.

Flaying the state government, he said that it spends a lot of money on Haj pilgrimages, but does not provide even bus facilities to poor devotees who want to go to Shabarimale.

Among those present were Madhusudhan, Ganesh Attavar, Praveen Mudigere, and Yogish Farangipet.
