Mangalore, Jan 6, 2012: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, the national-level handicrafts mela held at Hotel Woodland on Jan 6 Friday. 


The sponsor of this mela is the office of the development commissioner, ministry of textiles, and it is organized by Cauvery, the Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (KSHDCL).

Delivering the inaugural address, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that more than 150 artisans from all over India, including state and national award winners, are participating in this event. 


KSHDCL Senior Assistant Director Prabhakar said that the exhibition cum sale will be held from Jan 6 – 15 and all those who have to travel more than 500kms will receive travel allowances. 


A wide range of stone carving, palm leaf engraving, appliqué work, and Dhokra castings from Orissa, durries, carpets, jewelry, Bihari lac craft, woolen carpets, jute craft from West Bengal, cane and bamboo work, sitalpatti, terracotta craft, miniature paintings, colorfully embroidered shawls, pearl jewelry, crochet work from Andhra Pradesh, wood inlay from Karnataka, sandalwood carving, chola bronze, stone carving, zari saris and chanderi saris, phulkari, and others will be displayed at this mela.
