Mangalore, Sep 24, 2011: The Mangalore Tourism Department organized an interactive activity based on the subject of the future of tourism in the coastal areas as part of the World Tourism Department Day in Moti Mahal’s Vajra Hall on September 24 Saturday.
Dr. Sundar Naik, the chief conservator of Bangalore Forest Department, said on the occasion that the city lacks basic facilities for tourists, adding that religious tourist hotspots such as Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya have no proper lodging facilities for tourists.
Tourist agent Rasheed Bolar said that, although there is a cruise for Lakshadweep, it sets sail only from Cochin, owing to which there is a need for a direct cruise for tourists.
Sathish Bolar spoke of the importance of treating tourists with respect, adding that while tourists in foreign countries are treated respectfully, tourists who come to India get cheated at every step. He said that the tourist department must establish an information centre for tourists at bus stops and railway stations.
Yathis Baikampady, the CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, delivered the welcome address. Lekshmi Kumaran, the deputy general manager of MRPL; Manohar Shetty; and many others were also present.
