Mangaluru, Apr 26, 2026: The Diocese of Mangalore has appointed Fr Rupesh Madtha as its new priest Public Relations Officer (PRO), with the appointment set to take effect from June 1.
The appointment was announced by Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha as part of efforts to streamline the diocese’s official communication. Fr Madtha will succeed Dr J B Saldanha, who has completed a five-year term in the role.

As per the diocesan administrative structure, the public relations office is jointly handled by representatives of the clergy and the laity. Fr Madtha will work alongside Roy Castelino, who will continue as the Lay PRO.
Fr Madtha currently holds several key responsibilities, including serving as editor and manager of Raknno Weekly, convenor of the diocesan ecumenical commission and interreligious dialogue commission, secretary of the Mangalore Christian Council, and treasurer of the All-Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights (Western Zone).
In his new role, he will liaise with media, government officials and other stakeholders, besides organising press interactions and issuing official statements on matters concerning the diocese.
The diocese expressed appreciation for the services of outgoing PRO Dr J B Saldanha and conveyed confidence that Fr Madtha will effectively handle his expanded responsibilities.
