Bengaluru man loses Rs 7.66 lakh after falling for Modi, Anant Ambani deepfake investment videos

Bengaluru, Sep 26, 2026: A 39-year-old Bengaluru resident allegedly lost ₹7.66 lakh after falling victim to an investment scam promoted through deepfake videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sudha Murty and Anant Ambani.

According to the FIR, the victim, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout, came across the videos on Facebook on July 10. The videos allegedly showed the public figures promoting online investment opportunities.

The victim clicked on a link provided in the videos and initially transferred ₹22,000 to begin investing. He subsequently received calls from five unknown numbers with the +44 UK country code.

The callers allegedly introduced themselves as representatives of a company called ‘One Two Markets’ and persuaded him to invest in forex trading, promising higher returns. They allegedly created a fake forex trading account in his name and provided bank account details for transferring money.

Between July 10 and July 22, the victim transferred around ₹7.6 lakh through multiple transactions, believing that his investments were generating profits.

However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, the alleged scammers demanded additional investments. Suspecting that he had been cheated, the victim approached the police.

An FIR was registered on September 19, and an investigation is underway.
