Nandini milk price may increase by at least ₹10 per litre

Bengaluru, Sep 26, 2026: Prices of milk and other dairy products sold under the Nandini brand are likely to increase, with representatives of 16 milk unions across Karnataka set to meet Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday seeking a hike of at least ₹10 per litre.

Speaking to reporters after the annual general body meeting of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), Bangalore Milk Union Ltd (BAMUL) president D.K. Suresh said a price revision was necessary in view of the financial difficulties faced by dairy farmers.

“The price of fodder has increased significantly. Petrol and diesel prices have increased, as has the cost of all raw materials. When such is the situation, demanding a price rise is inevitable,” Suresh said.

He also pointed to increased costs of plastic milk sachets and transportation in recent months.

Suresh said KMF officials would submit a formal proposal to the Chief Minister seeking the price hike.

If milk prices are increased, prices of other Nandini products, including curd, butter, ghee and sweets, are also expected to rise.

Last week, representatives of the Karnataka Milk Producers’ Association said drought conditions had affected dairy farmers by reducing fodder availability and driving up prices. They also said the prices of raw materials such as maize and rice bran used in cattle feed had increased by around 25%.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also indicated that a milk price hike could be considered, saying he understood the difficulties faced by farmers and had sought data on milk prices in other states.
