Bidadi township project: Farmers’ hunger strike enters fourth day

Bengaluru, Sep 25, 2026: Farmers opposing the proposed Bidadi Township project continued their hunger strike for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, blocking the Bidadi-Harohalli Road at Byramangala and demanding that the government address their concerns over land acquisition.

The farmers alleged that no government official or elected representative had visited the protest site despite their prolonged agitation.

According to the protesters, three farmers fell ill on the second day of the hunger strike and were subsequently hospitalised.

The farmers claim to have been protesting against the project for 565 days. As part of the agitation, they have parked tractors and bullock carts on the road and installed a Ganesha idol at the protest site. Prayers have also been held alongside the ongoing hunger strike.

The protesters alleged that police prevented them from putting up a shamiana on the road, citing legal restrictions. They have since used sarees and greenhouse nets to create shade and continue their protest despite the heat.

The farmers are demanding that the high-level committee constituted by the government to examine the project visit the affected villages and hear their grievances directly.

Bharath, one of the protesting farmers, said the committee, headed by a retired judge, was expected to submit its report within 60 days but had not yet visited the villages.

He also questioned the requirement for affected residents to register at Nadakacheris with Aadhaar cards and land documents before submitting representations to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The protesters have demanded that the committee hold hearings at the gram panchayat level so that farmers, agricultural labourers, sharecroppers, women and senior citizens can directly present their grievances.

The farmers said the hunger strike would continue until their demands, including their concerns over land acquisition, are addressed.
