Feast of Events Planned at Coastal Beaches to Boost Tourism During Karavali Utsava

Mangaluru, Dec 14, 2025: As the tourist season sets in along the Karnataka coast, the Dakshina Kannada district administration, in coordination with the Tourism Department, has unveiled an ambitious master plan to transform the region’s major beaches into vibrant tourist hubs over the next two months. With a packed calendar of cultural, sports and leisure events lined up across key coastal stretches, the administration hopes to significantly boost tourist footfall during the peak season.

Events at Coastal Beaches

The initiative gains momentum with the commencement of Karavali Utsava on December 20. This year, officials say, special emphasis has been placed on giving coastal beaches “royal treatment” to position them as prime attractions for both domestic and outstation tourists. Backed by government funding and local-level support, the programme aims not only to cater to the existing influx of visitors but also to draw in new tourists.

From the day Karavali Utsava begins, beaches across Mangaluru will come alive with activities. Tannirbhavi Beach, Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach, Sasihithlu Beach, Panambur Beach, Ullal Beach and Someshwar Beach have been identified as the main venues for a series of high-energy events designed to offer a complete beachside experience.

Panambur Beach will host volleyball tournaments, sand art displays and water sports on December 20 and 21, while Tannirbhavi Beach will simultaneously feature wine and cake festivals along with cultural performances. The focus then shifts to Sasihithlu Beach on December 27 and 28, where a seafood festival, stand-up paddling, kayaking races and traditional country boat races will be held alongside cultural programmes, highlighting both adventure and local flavours.

The excitement is set to continue into the New Year. A musical evening featuring well-known singers will mark the start of January at Tannirbhavi Beach. Ullal Beach will host beach football, tug of war and a food festival on January 10 and 11, followed by an international-level kite festival at Tannirbhavi Beach on January 17 and 18. The month-long celebration will culminate in a grand beach festival from January 23 to 25 at Someshwar Beach, Tannirbhavi Blue Flag Beach and Tannirbhavi Beach, featuring sunrise yoga, Zumba dance and a host of other activities.

Dakshina Kannada Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju K. said the district has made a conscious effort this year to centre Karavali Utsava activities around the beaches. “Several programmes will be organised throughout the month to attract more tourists. The government has sanctioned ₹2 crore for Karavali Utsava, and additional resources will be mobilised locally,” he said.

With sun, sand and a spectrum of events on offer, the coastal belt of Dakshina Kannada is gearing up for a lively tourist season, promising visitors a blend of recreation, culture and coastal charm.
