Mangalore, Sept 26, 2013: “Excess intake of sugar is as harmful as alcohol consumption. A study states that the chances of liver disorders found in individuals consuming liquor and those who do not consume liquor is almost the same, as the individual who does not consume liquor, may consume excess sugar which causes health disorders, Dr Srinivas Kakkillaya, Consultant Physician said.
He was giving a talk on ‘Medicine, health and myths’ at the five day long Karnataka Cluster workshop on, ‘Development of scientific Temper and Demystification of Miracles’, organized by the National Council for Science and Technology (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishath at CDPO Hall on September 25, Wednesday.


Continuing, Dr Kakkillaya said there were several myths that the industry has created and people blindly follow. One such myth is -Drinking milk is good for health, he added. He said consuming more milk, fruits will increase fructose content in the body, thus developing health disorders.
In the next session, Prof. Narendra Nayak, President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA) demonstrated tricks used by godmen like swallowing fire, holding fire in hands, piercing needle to explain the participants about how people are misled by godmen.
