Ex-member of Subrahmanya GP arrested for blackmailing Sirsi woman

Mangaluru, September 30, 2023: Prashanth Bhat Manila (35), a former member of the Subrahmanya Gram Panchayat has been arrested by the Karwar police for allegedly blackmailing a married woman with her objectionable photographs.

The accused hails from Arlapadavu in Puttur. The complainant, a 28 year old woman from Sirsi had met Bhat through social media after the woman used to post her songs on a music app. It is learnt the accused assured her of an opportunity to sing in an orchestra. It is learnt, he later visited Sirsi where he took her to a lodge. The photos taken on this occasion were reportedly used by the accused to blackmail the woman. It is learnt he had demanded Rs 7 lakhs of which the woman had given by Rs 25,000. However the accused had shared the photos with her family including mother and husband following which the woman filed a complaint accusing Prashanth of raping her.

The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. It is learnt, he is a married man but was separated from his wife.
