UP, May 7, 2026: In a shocking incident reported from Meerut, a 72-year-old man allegedly kept the decomposed body of his daughter inside their house for nearly four months before being arrested by police following complaints of a foul smell from neighbours.

The accused, identified as Udaybhanu Biswas, had reportedly kept the body of his 35-year-old daughter Priyanka locked inside a room after her death and did not perform her last rites.

According to police, Biswas continued living in the house and allegedly used perfume in an attempt to mask the foul smell emanating from the room.

Acting on complaints from local residents, police visited the house in Teli Mohalla under the Sadar Bazar police station limits on April 10 and recovered the highly decomposed body, which had reportedly turned largely skeletal by then.

The body was later sent for post-mortem examination after legal formalities were completed.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Priyanka had died due to illness in December last year. Police said Biswas is originally from West Bengal and is a retired administrative officer from the education department.
