Two Girls Drown in Gundya River Near Kadaba

Kadaba, May 9, 2026: Two girl students drowned while bathing near the Kolyadakatta dam across the Gundya river under Kutruppady gram panchayat limits on Friday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Arpitha (15) and Sunitha (21), residents of Vimalagiri in Kutruppady village.

According to sources, the victims, along with three friends, had gone to the river on account of a holiday. While taking a bath, Arpitha and Sunitha reportedly entered a deep portion of the river and began drowning. Despite frantic efforts by their friends to rescue them, both lost their lives.

On receiving information, Kadaba police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. With the help of local residents, the bodies were later retrieved from the water.

Scenes of grief prevailed at the spot as family members mourned the loss of the two students. A case has been registered at Kadaba police station.
