Mangaluru, Oct 7, 2026: Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta has urged the authorities to register an FIR against Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for allegedly staging a protest outside the Election Commission office.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Dakshina Kannada BJP office on Tuesday, Chowta said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a routine process carried out to remove the names of deceased and relocated voters and prepare an updated electoral roll.
He alleged that the Congress was creating confusion over the ongoing process. Chowta said Form 7 provides an opportunity to raise objections to names in the electoral roll, but filing such an objection does not automatically result in the deletion of a voter’s name. Voters are given an opportunity to establish their eligibility and retain their names on the electoral roll, he said.
Chowta also said it would be inappropriate to register FIRs against people merely for filing applications under Form 7.
On the Brahmarakootlu toll gate, Chowta said he had held discussions with Union ministers regarding its removal. He said the Brahmarakootlu toll gate would be discontinued once a new toll gate is constructed at Punjalakatte in the next phase.
BJP office-bearers Raja Gopal Rai, Vasanth Poojary, Sujith Madoor, Sanjay Prabhu, Poornima, Pooja Pai and Jeevan Kumar, among others, were present.
