New Delhi, Oct 7, 2026: A day after Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in at Akashvani Bhawan, Delhi Police registered a case against the Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alleging that they forcibly entered the public broadcaster’s premises during a march by I.N.D.I.A. bloc MPs.
The Congress hit back at the move, accusing the government of targeting Rahul Gandhi for raising allegations of “vote chori” and questioning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh, in a post on ‘X’, alleged that the “diabolical duo is nervous, rattled and desperate” over the FIR against Rahul Gandhi, who he said was “relentlessly exposing through factual evidence” an alleged “vote chori” conspiracy involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Ramesh alleged that crores of genuine voters had lost their constitutional right to vote through what he described as the “atrocious” process of SIR, which he referred to as “Shahenshah Instigated Removal”.
“When the LOP-LS adopts the method of satyagraha to highlight the injustices of SIR, the Delhi Police registers an FIR against him and other leaders. The diabolical duo is nervous, rattled and desperate. The writing on the wall is clear,” he said.
The FIR followed a complaint alleging that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal and other MPs entered Akashvani Bhawan without permission on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi reportedly entered the premises around 12.20 pm despite attempts by some staff members to stop him.
Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders were later removed from the premises following an almost eight-hour standoff. The incident came after an I.N.D.I.A. bloc march towards the Election Commission was stopped near Akashvani Bhawan.
The Opposition MPs were protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that he had aided the ruling BJP in electoral malpractice.
Police said the I.N.D.I.A. bloc had not submitted an application seeking permission for the march to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, and that no permission had been granted.
