Mangalore, Feb 15:  Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrated in Mangalore on Tuesday, February 15 with religious reverence, fervour and a commitment to spend lives by following the teachings and the principles laid down by Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad.

Muslims offered mass prayers and greeted each other on the festive occasion at the Kudroli Mosque and Idgah, Light House Hill Road in the city and various other mosques all over the district. Prayer meets and religious discourses too are organized in mosques to celebrate the day. On this day, people introspect on heir deeds and look for the ways to be better their personality towards becoming good human beings.


The followers of the greatest prophet ever Muhammad (PBUH), on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, carried out various processions from different parts of the City. Enthusiastic people especially the youth also decorated several streets and different private and official buildings to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).


Special duff processions were held at Thokkottu, Ullal, Kannur etc on Thursday to mark Eid Milad. Hundreds of children sang songs and made their way through city streets praising the mercy of Allah and thanking for the gift of Prophet Mohammad to humankind. Even in and around Udupi, special processions were held in which children sand songs and salutations with religious fervour and devotion.

The day is celebrated to honour the birth and also the death of Prophet Mohammed. Coincidentally, the birth and death of Prophet Mohammed falls on the same day and hence instead of celebrating the day in a grand manner.
