Mangalore, Sept. 23, 2011: Karnataka Dalit Sangarsh Samithi organized a protest rally from Light House Hill Road to the DC’s office today demanding that the murder of cab driver Govardhan should be solved at the earliest possible and that the culprits responsible for it should be arrested.
Convener Sathya Bhadhravathi said in his protest address that the Dalit community is unhappy with the way the police are investigating the case. Stating that the police department has attached no significance to the life of a Dalit and has reduced the murder to a mere case number, he voiced his opinion that this proves the inefficiency of the police department in providing justice to the family of Govardhan.
Attacking District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar, he said that the minister would have taken personal interest in the case if an RSS or Bajrang Dal member was murdered, adding that the murder of a Dalit does not interest him.
He also warned that the association will stage intense statewide protests if the culprits are not arrested immediately.
The protestors also demanded that the state government should provide Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the family of the murder victim and a government job to one member of his family. They said that all facilities should be provided to his 3 children.
