Congress demands legal action against RSS leader Prabhakar Bhat

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 27, 2012: The district unit of the Congress Party organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on Jan 27 Friday, during which they alleged that the BJP-led state government was not permitting the police department to take action against anti-social elements.

Delivering the protest address, Ivan D’Souza, the secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), said that although criminal cases were registered against RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and some others for delivering inflammatory speeches that led to communal clashes after the recently held Hindu Samajotsava in Uppinangady, the police have taken no action against them so far.

Stating that Mr. Bhat delivered a venomous speech at the Hindu Samajotsava, in which he threatened to have Muslim youth killed, he said that the speech sparked off a communal clash in Uppinangady and its surrounding areas. The police had registered a case under IPC Section 153A and 295A for promoting enmity between two communities and causing national disintegration against Mr. Bhat the next day.

Further, Mr. D’Souza said that although the police are willing to take action against Mr. Bhat and some others, the state government has exerted pressure on them, preventing them from taking any action.

Severely criticizing the state government, Mr. D’Souza said that the BJP had actually supported Mr. Bhat instead of taking action against him for causing communal violence.

He also alleged that the recent communal violence in Sullia and Uppinangady were part of a larger conspiracy on the part of communal outfits supported by the state government to wreck communal peace and harmony in the state.

Local Congress leaders Narendra Kumar, Suresh Ballal, Ashok Kumar, Ibrahim Bawa, Suresh Shetty, Mamatha Gatti, Praveen Alva, Shashidhar Hegde, Farooq, Sudhir T. K., Karunakar Shetty, and others also participated in the protest.

The Congress has also submitted a memorandum demanding stern legal action to be taken against the RSS leader and his supporters to CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda through DC Dr. Channappa Gowda.
