Mangalore, Feb 23: Chris Cairns, the former Kiwi captain, and his team of international cricket stars from Australia will play against DIX Group DKCA Mangalore Warriors for the prestigious Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Cup at the NMPT Cricket Stadium on Feb 25, Friday.

Revealing further details about this exciting match, Chris Cairns Foundation leader Joseph Rego told reporters at a press meet held at Hotel Gateway on Feb 23, Wednesday that Chris Cairns will also conduct a cricket workshop for young budding cricketers and cricket enthusiasts, during which he will share his experiences and offer valuable cricketing tips and techniques.

President of DKCA Dr. Srikanth Rai unveiled the Maruthi Suzuki Chris Cairns T20 Cricket Cup on this occasion. In his address, he spoke of the importance of instilling the spirit of sports within children. He also promised that the city will witness major cricket events, featuring international cricket stars, on a regular basis.

Mr. Rego said that the match will commence at 2:00 p.m. at NMPT Cricket Stadium in Panambur as per the games international rules. The highlights of the event will be DJ music and cheer leaders dancing to the latest Bollywood hits, he informed.

John Milan, the branch manager of FCM Travels, said that the tickets can be obtained for Rs. 100 at the gates of the stadium on the day of the match. Speaking about the Chris Cairns Foundation, he said that it is associated with the Round Table, Mangalore’s voluntary charity headed by Arjun Pinto. He also said that the Round Table is widely acclaimed for supporting a number of worthy causes and raising funds for them and added that Round Table will support Chris Cairns Foundation by donating Rs 2 lakh required for the hearing implant operation of one child in DK.

He also informed that the Round Table will host a Chris Cairns Charity Ball in collaboration with the foundation at Boat Club, Sultan Battery, Mangalore. Bryns, a high-profile music band from Mumbai, will fly into Mangalore to present a splendid live performance; and the people of Mangalore can grab this opportunity to interact with international cricket stars and dance to the music of Bryns. The tickets cost Rs. 800 per couple and Rs. 500 per individual and will be available to 400 people on a first come first served basis, he said.

The Chris Cairns X1 team comprises Chris Cairns (captain), Marc Archer, Tom Hoban, Tom Urqhart, Zulf Hyatt- Khan, Graham Enever, Andy Warkman, Andrew Croft, James Wyndham, Eben Pollitt, Anthony Davies, Duncan Raeside and Oliver Roborgh.

The DIX Group Mangalore Warriors will include Daniel Sequeira (captain), Nishith Raj, Ashreen B, Sachin Kanchan, Bharath Dhuri Vinay GK, Harshith, Prithiv Raj, Hariprasad K, Yashraj Sharma, Nikhil Raj, Sawan Puthran, Nihl U, Shameek K, Samuell Jayaraj (coach).

Arjun Pinto, the president of Mangalore Coastal Round Table, and Mohammed Sheriff, the administration manager of Coastal Digest, were also present.
