Belthangady, January 10, 2026: A truck carrying maize was gutted in a fire accident at the second hairpin bend of Charmadi Ghat at around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Local residents and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and carried out firefighting operations. The truck was completely burnt and reduced to ashes.

Fire

The incident occurred on the Charmadi Ghat road, which connects Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada districts. The maize-laden truck was traveling from Javagal to Kundapur when it reportedly caught fire due to a technical malfunction.

The fire is said to have started from the truck’s tyre and quickly spread to the entire vehicle, destroying both the truck and the maize cargo. Due to the intensity of the blaze, the fire also spread to the nearby forest area of the ghat, creating panic for some time.

The truck driver and two others who were in the vehicle narrowly escaped without injuries. Fire brigade personnel arrived promptly and managed to douse the flames, preventing further damage. Authorities are investigating the incident.
