Bengaluru, Jan. 11, 2026: Construction workers in Gadag district unearthed an earthen pot containing ancient coins and jewellery while digging the foundation for a house, triggering excitement among locals and swift action by authorities.
The discovery was made in Gadag taluk during routine excavation work. As news spread, residents gathered at the site, prompting police and revenue officials to intervene and cordon off the area to prevent tampering.

The cache has been handed over to the Department of Archaeology for detailed examination to determine its age, origin and historical significance. Officials have urged the public to immediately report such finds and avoid disturbing artefacts, citing their cultural importance.
Experts believe the hoard could be linked to Gadag’s rich past, associated with Chalukya and Hoysala rule, known for flourishing trade and temple architecture. If found to be historically significant, the artefacts may be preserved in a museum or state archives.
