Bengaluru, January 10, 2025: The Hubballi case, in which a woman alleged that police had disrobed her, will be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after approval from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Friday.
“Discussions are ongoing. The CID will probe the authenticity of the incident and submit a report to the government. Based on that, the government will determine if there was any lapse and decide the next steps,” he told reporters in Bengaluru.
The opposition has criticized the Congress government after a video went viral showing a woman, reportedly a BJP worker, partially unclothed inside a police vehicle. The incident allegedly took place during police action over a voter revision-related dispute in Hubballi.
Police have denied the allegations, asserting that the woman removed her clothes herself.
“Police did not disrobe the woman; they acted immediately. I have publicly stated that she did it herself. Still, a detailed investigation is being considered to ascertain the facts,” Parameshwara said.
He emphasized that “no one has interfered in our decisions,” adding, “The chief minister and I discuss matters and make decisions together. While I could have directly handed the case to the CID, such decisions require the CM’s knowledge.”
